Lectionary 17

Color: Green
Readings: Gospel Text: John 16:15-20 | Sermon Text: Job 31:35-37; 38:1-11 (The Lord Answers)
Prayer of the Day: God who is greater than all chaos; when despair clouds our vision of your glory, open our eyes to see the wonder of your creation. Bring us out of the darkness of suffering and into your light that our weeping may be turned into praising you. In the name of the one whose light shatters the darkness, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Prayers of Intercession:

Let us pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus, and for all people according to their needs.

A brief silence.

God who laid the foundation of the earth; make the foundation of your church firm and guide all who follow you in ways of mercy and love. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

God who shut in the sea; protect the wild places of the world and inspire us with the beauty found even in chaos. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

God who causes the morning stars to sing; bring your light to the nations of the world and illuminate all who lead with your great wisdom. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

God who makes the heavens shout for joy; reach into the dark and broken places of our lives and grant us patience, endurance, and hope in you. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

God who knows the measurements of the cosmos; enter into our pain and bring your resurrection life. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Here other intercessions may be offered.

God who laid the cornerstones of time; bring us safely to our eternal home and bless the resting places of all who have died in you. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Into your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
