Prayers of Intercession:

(Introduction and Conclusion from Revised Common Lectionary Prayers, copyright © 2002)

Caught between joy and despair, we yearn for the fulfillment of God’s desire beyond the brokenness and neediness of this life. We offer thanksgiving for God’s presence with us and petitions for the transformation of the church and the world.

A brief silence.

Blessed One, shower your blessing upon the church; help us to be a beacon of hope and compassion in this time of trial. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Blessed One, shower your blessings upon creation and all who work the water and soil; bring an abundant harvest so that all may be fed. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Blessed One, shower your blessings upon our leaders; grant them wisdom and care for others as they lead in this difficult time. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Blessed One, shower your blessings upon those struggling with mental illness; surround them with your love and provide them the support they need. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Blessed One, shower your blessings upon all the sick, (especially,…); grant healing and peace wherever it is needed. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Blessed One, shower your blessings upon our congregation; open our eyes to the needs of the people around us and grant us the courage to serve those needs. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Here other intercessions may be offered.

Blessed One, shower your blessings upon all who are struggling with doubt in this time; turn our eyes to the examples of the saints who show us what faith in you can look like. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Life-giver, Pain-bearer, Love-maker, day by day you sustain the weary with your word and gently encourage us to place our trust in you. Awaken us to the suffering of those around us; save us from hiding in denials or taunts that deepen the hurt; give us grace to share one another’s burdens in humble service. Amen.
